Of the many reasons to turn vegetarian, perhaps the most compelling is witnessing how animals r treated in slaughter houses.Jawahar lal nehru rightly said dat if slaughter houses had glass walls, the whole world would be vegetarian. After reading these 1st hand accounts,c if u hv d stomach 4 meat.
Chicken slaughter houses shackle birds n drag deir heads thro an electrified water trough called a stunner. The voltage in a stunner isn't enuf to shock d birds unconscious bcoz too much electricity can damage d carcass n diminish itz value. The result is dat birds can't struggle but can still feel pain. After stunning ,the birds' throats r slashed :(
Finally, the half dead birds r plunged into boiling water 4 defeathering.workers hv been filmed stomping birds, kicking them & slamming dem against floors n walla. They rip deir breaks, twist off deir heads, spit tobacco into deir eyes n mouths, spray paint deir faces n tie deir legs tgthr 4 "laughs"
1 of d survey says "every moment of deir lives is characterised by unmitigated suffering;they r sbjctd to a level of cruelty n abuse far beyond nythn v cn imagine"n they say dis is business as usual in slaughter industry. :((
A similar treatmnt is givn to hogs.they r thumpd on d ground, beaten wd rod n violatd wid canes..sm stand on top of deir throats smashing deir jaw until they die.dere is no concession 4 females. No mercy 4 children.
Worse happens in India.Over 40-50 cattle r stufd in 1 truck urinating n defecating 1 on top of anthr, deir limbs crushed n broken.most r dead on arrival.
A movie I recently saw showed a serial killer tormetng a victim b4 killing her.As she screamed n pleaded askn hm y he ws doin dis,I cudnt help but thnk dat dis cud b d xact reacn of dose bemused billions of innocnt creatures we torture n murder to eat.Think abt it.
I am still sure that majority of the non-vegetarians wont change..For the people who might just change..this is an effort from me and my friend divya..and the writer ambika shukla..
Very good write up there Nick! Very compelling, persuasive and a nearly convincing post!
